SELF-BUILD OR READY-TO-RUN
Many get into this hobby because they want to build their cars from the ground up. Self-build radio control car kits are fully unassembled vehicles – you basically get bags of parts that you build into a fully functioning vehicle with the help of a manual. While this takes more time, the building process is part of the fun, and you learn more about how the car actually works. It also means that if a part gets damaged during play, you will know exactly how to get that part replaced. A self-build kit also allows you to choose the components like the radio control equipment, motor, and speed controls that you will need to add.
Some others prefer to start with a Ready-to-Run (RTR) kit, which comes fully assembled, complete with the radio equipment like the transmitter. Some RTRs also come with batteries and a simple charger. RTRs allow you to get started in a fuss-free manner and in the most affordable way.
